Strong Steps is a CAAPS Aboriginal Corporation satellite service, funded by the northern territory primary health network, to provide AOD counselling and support for people in Darwin’s rural areas.

What does Strong Steps do?

Strong steps is a flexible service that provides:​

  • Counselling
  • Assessment and Screening
  • Brief Intervention
  • Referral
  • Information

All Strong Steps counsellors are highly experienced and qualified in providing AOD services with a culturally diverse approach.

How can I access Strong Steps?

Strong Steps is a drop-in service, which means that you can visit anytime during business hours, although appointments can be arranged if required. We offer a comfortable family-friendly environment and Strong Steps services are free of charge.

Strong Steps is a free service.

How old do I need to be to access Strong Steps?

Strong Steps is available for people 13 years or older.

What if I cant make it into the service?

Strong Steps can provide phone counselling, advice and information to people if required. Phone counselling is also available to people who may be in other areas outside of Darwin or in prison.

What if I don’t use alcohol or other drugs?

Strong Steps can support people with information, education and counselling to assist them if they are affected by someone else’s substance use. Strong Steps can also assist you to find other services that can meet your needs.
