CAAPS board member and staff highlight

Our CAAPS board members are very passionate about their work with you in the community, so we’re taking this chance to put the spotlight on some of the fantastic people we work with. Meet Darren, Chairperson of the CAAPS Board and Lena, our new young talent.

Meet Darren Johnson

Darren Johnson has been a volunteer with CAAPS as the Chairperson for 5 years but has been a member of the board for 7 years in total. He believes that CAAPS represents a very important service within the community and he completely believes everything they do for the community is beneficial.

Darren is also the Director on the Board of Directors for the Yilli Rreung Housing Aboriginal Corporation (Yilli) which provides housing services (property and tenancy management) to Darwin surrounding homelands and town camps and an accommodation facility in Karama/Malak (Batten Road).

Along with this commitment, Darren represents the NT on the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Association (NATSIHA), the First Nations housing peak body in Australia, to advocate self-determination and the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in the housing sector.

His passion for nurturing the community also shines through in his home garden, where he agrees, the more time and energy you put into it, the richer it will be for everyone to enjoy.

Introducing Lena, CAAPS’ newest young talent on the scene.

Joining CAAPS through a work placement program a year ago, Lena was then successful in getting a position as a Trainee in Administration. She is motivated by building relationships with clients and staff, as well as being out in the community with clients.

On the day-to-day, Lena supports the Healthy Families team answering phones, responding to emails, being a part of the weekly community meetings and occasionally helping the Homelessness Outreach team with Client referrals out in the Community.

In her spare time, Lena loves shopping, going for walks with friends and family, and winding down with Netflix and one of her favourite candles.
