Updates from our recent AGM

After 36 years being known as the Council for Aboriginal Alcohol Program Services, on the 20th of November CAAPS held our first AGM under our new name CAAPS Aboriginal Corporation.

We also launched our Annual Report and new branding promoting our broader vision to provide excellence in the areas of social and emotional wellbeing and alcohol and other drug treatment. We sincerely thank our Chairperson Darren Johnson who has agreed to remain our Chair for the fifth consecutive year. Our re-elected Vice-Chair Kay Gehan is also a long standing Board member who has also held executive roles with CAAPS over many years. Frank Ahmat another long-time Board member was re-elected to the Board this year for a further two years. We welcome Ashum Owen who was elected to the Board for two years after a serving us through a direct appointment for the past 12 months and our Board appointed non-member skills based Director Mike Levy has agreed to continue supporting CAAPS Finance and Risk Committee.

Part of our mission is to provide evidence based assistance, raise awareness and advocate for individual, family and community needs. Elizabeth Stubbs our D/CEO and Integrated Services Manager Charlotte Taylor demonstrated our expertise this year by tailoring training for external providers who are managing Aboriginal youth substance use in out of home care settings. We formally thank Elizabeth and Charlotte for their work in promoting quality improvement in the sector, which also included attending and delivering sessions at the AADANT youth Forum in Darwin, Alice Springs, Tenant Creek and Katherine.
